Equity, diversity and inclusion help build a fair and equal opportunity society which leads towards improvement of the cultural competency in the community. While equity describes the fair treatment and equal opportunity to all people of the society, diversity describes the uniqueness of people. Inclusion means acceptance and importance to all regardless of their background. To have a commitment for equity, diversity, and inclusion means to be actively committed for promoting these principles in all walks of life. This includes recognizing and challenging instances of discrimination and inequality, and actively working to create an inclusive environment for all individuals, regardless of their race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, ability, religion, or any other personal characteristic.
I see the whole world as one family, which is also a core value of humanity. While a family has individuals with different personalities and opinions, it is still inclusive and united without any discrimination. My understanding about EDI has significantly enhanced during my sixteen years stay in Indonesia for schooling followed by seven years in USA and bachelor’s degree and job. This multicultural, multi-lingual and diverse living environment has reinforced my belief that the peaceful coexistence of people with different opinions, religions and beliefs greatly contributes towards a better society and peaceful world.
The commitment for EDI can be demonstrated through a variety of actions, such as promoting policies and initiatives that support underrepresented groups, actively working to challenge and eliminate discrimination to provide an inclusive environment which welcomes all members of the community. It is my intention to continue to educate and reflect on my own privileges and how they are interwoven with the experiences of others.
I actively participate in initiatives and programs that promote equity, diversity, and inclusion. This includes attending workshops and seminars on these topics, joining equity committees focused on promoting EDI, and participating in community service projects that support underrepresented groups. Additionally, I will strive to be an ally and advocate for marginalized individuals and communities by standing up against discrimination and injustice when I witness it.
Ultimately, my goal is to help create a more inclusive and equitable community. I believe that by working together and supporting one another, we can create a world where everyone is treated with dignity, respect, and fairness, regardless of who they are or where they come from. This would provide me an opportunity to implement these values at work place which will help any organization to outperform.
